nikon coolpix p340 sensor 2019

introduction

nikon coolpix p340 sensor 2019, Following a more substantial update to the firm's enthusiast-oriented Coolpix P330 model last year,

this year's iteration is a less ambitious improvement. Shares of the Coolpix P340 are virtually identical, with the average 1 / 1.7-inch Type 12-MPP BSI CMOS sensor and 24-120mm equivalent f1.8-5.6 Nikker lens stabilized as its predecessor.

The camera also adopts shell and similar rear 3.0 k 921k-dot LCD, although it now has an antireflective coating.

The main difference between the two, however, is the inclusion of WiFi for both remote control and file transfer for app-driven smartphones. It replaces the GPS function of its predecessor but is, perhaps, likely to be a more used feature.

Elsewhere there have been some minor modifications. The camera's control ring around the lens has a click-stop and some weights are cut from the original's 7.1 oz (200g) to 6.9 oz (194g).

And although the P340 shares the same Li-ion N-EL12 battery, life has been improved by about 10%, equivalent to about 220 shots per charge.

Like its predecessor, the Coolpix P340 is well-equipped for capturing movie clips. It has full HD (1920 x 1080) and 720p video capture at 50/60 fps, including 25/30 fps with stereo. The Nikon Coolpix P340 is now available for around $ 400.

nikon coolpix p340 sensor Nikon Coolpix P340: Good all round sensor performance

The 54 digit 1 / 1.7-inch type BSI sensor with the DxOMark is one of the best-performing of its type. However, at 186th overall, when compared with others used by compacts (including sensors of different sizes), it ranks in joint space.

It has good color discrimination (color depth) at 20.7 bits, a wide dynamic range, larger than most DSLRs from a few years ago, and a reasonable if not great low-light score of 272 ISO.

While this seems low, keep in mind that it refers to the highest ISO sensitivity at which this sensor can achieve an SNR of 30dB,

while maintaining a good dynamic range of 9 eV and a color depth of 18 bits. Can. Higher is better, but it is a benchmarking practice and perfectly acceptable images can be generated above this sensitivity.

While there are a few new models to include in our database, the Nikon Coolpix P340 is only a handful of compact models that can output RAW files, and it ranks them all very high.

Nikon Coolpix P340 vs Nikon Coolpix P330: unlikely to use incremental advance

Lab has a mediocre difference between this model and its predecessor Coolpix P330, but it is difficult to use in the real world if it is not impossible to tell the two separately. A 0.2 bit increase in color depth would be indistinguishable,

and while a slight increase in dynamic range and low-light ISO capability are welcome the new model is safe to share the corresponding sensor with its predecessor.

Nikon Coolpix P340 vs. Canon PowerShot S120 vs. Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-RX100 II: Matches well with similar-sized rivals, but still short of larger Sony 1-inch sensors

As a model targeting enthusiasts, Nikon has to compete with the same PowerShot S120 as Canon, which is an equally priced and specified model. To that end, the two sensors on both of those cameras are equally matched.

The difference of two points in the DxOMark score is practically inseparable. While Canon may claim slightly higher color depth,

it has little advantage in the dynamic range of higher ISOs (and not just on the basis of the same DR). Low light capabilities are very close to care though.

Nikon also has to compete with Sony's disruptive DSC-RX100 II. It has a much larger 1-inch type of sensor (and ticket to match) similar spec lens (24-100 mm f1.8-4.9) and is similar in size if only slightly heavier.

Along with the large sensor, it is a 20-Mpix device and has high performance in every respect. It is meant to defeat one but at $ 700 it is not going to appeal to everyone.

nikon coolpix p340 sensor The conclusion

Most of Nikon's work was achieved with improvements to previous models of the previous P310, and this iteration is really only a light job.

The built-in GPS unit swap for WiFi capability seems reasonable, and the battery life is greatly improved, but there is nothing to choose between the two for the performance of the sensor.

It easily compares with similar rivals, but the physically smaller size of the sensor means it's lower than the pricier Sony RX100 model.
